2 must-have 5e projects, what that little bag on the tote is for, and what to do if you (somehow) still don't have your rewards
almost 3 years ago – Thu, Jun 03, 2021 at 02:28:04 AM

Hey everyone! Hope you've all been having some exciting, loot-filled adventures with your friends. Three things from me today: cool stuff, explanatory stuff, and troubleshooting stuff. Let's cover the less fun (but important) stuff first.

  • If you haven't gotten your order yet, just message me here on Kickstarter. There are about 100 or so of you that never filled in your Backerkit surveys, and without those, I can't get your rewards shipped out. A select few of you have had issues with your products being caught in a postal purgatory somewhere, and we've so far been able to fix those issues as well. All in all, everyone should have received their rewards by now, as the last products were shipped out in mid-April.
  • A handful of backers asked what the purpose of the mini bag is that's sewn onto the inside of the tote, and why it's inverted. That's for stuffing the tote inside a smaller bag, so it's easy to take with you! When you do that, the mini bag turns right-side-out. You can see what that looks like here.

The fun stuff.

The following two projects are not only top-tier 5e books + bonus material, but they're also from sources I really trust and respect. If you're like me and love having a library of great 5e content always on hand, these are for you.

Heliana's Guide to Monster Hunting

Loot Tavern, Humperdink’s Wares, and Jess Jackdaw have just launched their awesome Kickstarter, Heliana’s Guide to Monster Hunting. It brings Monster Hunter and Pokemon to 5th-edition D&D. They've smashed their goal and already at over 300k in funding at just over 24 hours!

This 300-page book includes:

  • 3 modular rule systems for tracking, harvesting, and crafting
  • 10 adventures, each playable at three levels
  • 10 friendly familiars
  • 40+ original spells
  • 50+ new monsters
  • 150+ fully-illustrated items
  • 200+ characterful random encounters
  • Plus a unique monster-summoning class!

Also, if you back for the book within the first 72 hours you can get a FREE baby C'thulhu pin familiar. Trust me, it's cute.  Hurry up and back it today!

Pexia's Guide to Omeria

DMDave, one of my favorite adventure writers for 5e (who has also helped with Book One!) is releasing a complete guide to one of his cherished worlds: Omeria. In it you'll find clever worldbuilding, lore, and flavor. Accompanying it is the Hand of the Eight adventure book, which is a 225-page series of adventures that are filled with clever options and story hooks for your adventuring party! They're in the last stretch at 48 hours, so be sure to get in and back this project while the getting's good!

That's it from me for today! I hope you like and back those two projects (I know I did) and support some of my favorite fellow creators!

Until next time, keep on adventuring!

A free and silly NPC to make light of an equally silly printer-side goof
about 3 years ago – Sat, Apr 24, 2021 at 10:51:42 PM

Hey everyone!

A few folks may have noticed it already, but I'd like to point it out and be candid about a silly (and frustrating) printing error that'll be unique to your first run of the books. It's silly because it's minor and obvious, but frustrating because everyone was a total proofing rockstar when the PDF came out. Since the final PDF was released, this is the only error that's been found: and it's only in the books.

This error was introduced after I sent the final files during the preprinting stage of production, and therefore not something I could have foreseen or possibly caught. If you look at your book on page 61, you'll notice that the label for fable's end has "ind fonts" stuck in the middle of it. To the best of everyone's collective guesses, this was probably a random error that came up during InDesign's export process. Again, after it was sent out to the printers. For comparison, if you look at your PDFs, it's not there. The files I sent the printer and the PDF you have were part of the exact same export from me. The printer had another export process of their own.

Regardless, this error won't be in the second printing, that's for sure.

Instead of resigning myself to just grimace and get annoyed about it forever and ever, I reached out to Fabian, the character artist who does the subclass art for the Saddlebag. Together, we gave this silly misprint a life of its own: someone that we hope you and GMs everywhere can interject into your games for some comic relief and unexpected hijinks.

Anyway, thank you all for the incredible support, as always! Without further ado, I'd like you to meet my good friend: Ind Fonts!

Ind Fonts

Goblin fool, wanderer, friend, rogue: chaotic good.

Personality Traits. Ind Fonts is silly, harmless, and disarmingly sincere. He remains oblivious that people may treat him differently because of his goblin heritage, and as a result will happily wander wherever his well-worn feet will take him each day.

Ideals. Friends are nice! So are long walks.

Fears. Ind doesn’t have the awareness to intuit when something should be scary, but he dislikes yelling.

Quirks. He has an uncanny knack for appearing in dangerous or inopportune situations without knowing what’s at stake: often at the risk of his own peril.

Secret. Ind Fonts once signed a book that he assumed was for guest names, but was actually a formal ledger. He feels bad about it to this day.

d6 Magic item

1 Immovable Button

2 Frefil’s Jolly Oozebean Sugarbombs

3 Socks of the Well-Rested

4 Fable’s End

5 Purse Piglet

6 The Griffon’s Saddlebag

You can download the files for Ind here — the files are at the bottom of the page.

Thanks for the support, as always, and keep on adventuring!

Did you get a card box? Here's how the cards fit!
about 3 years ago – Sun, Apr 04, 2021 at 08:46:35 AM

Hey everyone! There's a small shipping update at the bottom, in case you wanted to skip ahead to that.

There've been some comments lately from backers who are having trouble getting their cards to fit in their boxes. The boxes are appropriately sized, there's just one way for the cards to fit:

Here's a picture of how the cards fit into the deluxe box. In your deluxe box, you should have received an extra plastic card: that's a divider! Use that to split up the left and right stacks/columns of cards so they don't shift around in there.

Naturally, if you got one of the Everice or Bard-in-a-Box boxes, you'd only have one of these columns to contend with.

These aren't like classic MtG boxes, since these cards are considerably taller. If they were like those classic boxes, they'd become top-heavy and topple over. Please note that you will have to remove the cards from their original boxes in order for them to properly fit, as the boxes themselves add on too much height and width.

Hope that sorts out any questions or frustrations you may have with getting your cards to fit! Let me know if have any more in the comments below.

And, if your box/boxes came to you damaged (because they need to ship pre-assembled), send me a message or an email ([email protected]) with a picture and I'll make sure you get a replacement sent your way!

Keep on adventuring!

Shipping is continuing at a good pace, although now that we're handling more complicated orders, the pace is around 300 packages a day. White Squirrel is doing their best (it's a small team!), so just hang tight: your rewards are on their way! If you're moving soon or need some other kind of reassurance that your order will be able to make it to you, just send me a message!

Updates on shipping: daily shipment numbers and a crisis averted
about 3 years ago – Fri, Mar 19, 2021 at 02:39:44 AM

Tl;dr:

  • Anywhere from 300-500 orders are shipping each day, starting with just the books. If you haven't gotten your tracking number yet, don't worry: it's coming!
  • There was also a major box shortage, but we were able to get enough to keep (and finish) mailing the books at pace.
  • If you need to change you shipping address, please email [email protected] with your information and new address!

Hey everyone! Just wanted to keep you all aware of what's been happening on this end of the keyboard since the last update.

Shipment Numbers

The folks at White Squirrel, the fulfillment company, are hard at work getting orders shipped out. They're focusing on the orders that only include books first, since those are both the easiest to pack and the bulk of the campaign's pledges. The ten of you who snagged one of the leather bags will also notice that your orders were shipped out yesterday, too, so be on the lookout for those!

As soon as the book orders go out, they'll move onto the next largest group of pledges (book + cards, etc), and continue to go down the list for the remaining few thousand orders.

Right now, between 300 and 500 packages are shipped out each day. Because we're still shipping out just the books, that figure is closer to 500, but as we get more complex in the package contents, that number will drift down towards the 300 figure. If you haven't gotten your tracking email yet, don't worry! It's coming!

Please remember that these are human beings who are packing these orders, and not only that, it's a small team! I wasn't sure of the scale that this project would reach when I first launched the campaign,  so I decided to sign with a smaller company beforehand and solidify my shipping costs early. As a result, this project is considerably larger than White Squirrel's normal project size (thank you!), so their fulfillment speeds aren't the same as some of the larger warehouses out there. Lesson learned for when it comes time to ship Book Two!

A Crisis Averted

There was also a sizable scare at the start of last week: there was a shortage of boxes. Of the 6,500 mailers the warehouse ordered for these books, only a fraction showed up at all. The seller didn't alert the warehouse that they were on backorder, and said that the earliest that the rest of the boxes wouldshow up was April 8th—super not okay, obviously. White Squirrel reached out to the full spectrum of local suppliers, but everyone was sold out of this kind of box. However, with enough phone calls, they did eventually find enough mailers in time, so the project is continuing to ship out without any further hangups. Whew!

Forging Ahead

So now that all foreseeable issues are out of the way, White Squirrel is continuing to ship out your orders as quickly as they can. Again, if you haven't gotten your tracking number yet, hang tight! It's coming!

And, if you still need to change your shipping address, please email [email protected] with your information and new shipping address! They're the ones with the addresses in hand, so be sure to let them know what your new address is so they can make those changes for you!

Until next time, send a message if you need help with anything, and keep on adventuring!

Last 24 hours to change your shipping address!
about 3 years ago – Thu, Mar 04, 2021 at 10:17:20 PM

Hey everyone!

Your Kickstarter rewards will start shipping out from the warehouse tomorrow! Whoo-hoo! That means if you've moved recently or want to verify your shipping address once more, now's the time to do it!

The easiest way people have had to get to the page they need is to dig up that survey email sent from Backerkit and click the link there, since it'll take you to the right project with your account loaded. From there, you can either double check your shipping address or make changes to it as needed.

Once your package ships, you'll be emailed a tracking number to the email address we have associated with you. If you've changed email address, now would be a good time to update those, too!

Thank you all again for your patience and understanding over the last couple months as these final products made their journey to the warehouse! You're all the best, and I hope your enjoy your richly deserved rewards!

Until next time, keep on adventuring!
